Our Ministers
Our team of ministers is lead by Rev. John McKibbon and all are licensed by the Registrar General of Ontario. John who has been with us since 1996, also conducts baptism and civil naming ceremonies. Should you have questions about your wedding ceremony you may contact Rev. John McKibbon
The Ceremony
If you have already secured your wedding at Madsen's then you should have a booklet containing a time tested and distinctive wedding ceremony? Hopefully, you have already discovered its simplicity and tastefulness! As you can see the ceremony can be either a civil, spiritual, or religious ceremony. It can be easily adapted to meet your needs. Just follow the order of the service as outlined in the booklet. If you make changes or additions kindly cut and paste into our format and just write the names of people, that you wish to include, directly into the ceremony. Dont forget to highlight your vows and ring exchange. You do not have to memorize them. We ask that you keep this ceremony and give it to Mr Madsen at the rehearsal.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are conducted in the Chapel by Mr Madsen a few days prior to your ceremony. Simply give him a call about a month before your special day to set up a date and time. Where people stand, how the bride is presented, who holds the rings, who is seated last, the recessional [exit] and any other personalized items are predetermined at the rehearsal. Mr. Madsen is usually responsible for the music and for the beginning and ending of the ceremony as well! Your Officiator will conduct the entire ceremony according to the agreed plans that you have made with Mr Madsen. Once you are standing in front of us we guide you through everything!
What To Bring To the Rehearsal
Please bring your marriage license and the ceremony booklet to the rehearsal and leave them with Mr. Madsen. Also, highlight the vows, and the words spoken during the ring exchange. You may indicate other special ingredients by writing them into the sample ceremony and by informing Mr Madsen of your wishes. Also, inform Mr Madsen if you wish to include something that reflects your cultural, religious, or social values into your ceremony. You may also contact Rev John McKibbon before the wedding if you have questions or concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Where do I purchase a marriage license?
To obtain a license you have to fill out an application. If the wedding is within 90 days, obtain a marriage application from the clerks office at any Municipal Center. You may print an application form at http://www.cbs.gov.on.ca/mcbs/english/marriages.htm. If you wish, you may purchase your marriage license the same day you fill out the application. Marriage Licenses are valid for three months. The applications explain the necessary legal documentation that you will need to obtain the license. Please bring your license with you during the evening of the rehearsal.
How long does the ceremony take?
We tell couples to budget thirty minutes for the entrance, the ceremony, the signing, and the recessional.
Do we have to memorize our vows?
Only if you wish to do so. Usually you repeat them after us.
Can we write our own vows? Yes, you sure can! Give us a copy before the ceremony begins.
Can I Choose my own readings and who will read them? Yes. Bring a copy with you to the rehearsal!
Can children take part in the ceremony? Yes we encourage it. Ask us for a few suggestions and how do just that.
Does the Officiant stay for dinner?
Most would like to but usually they have another wedding ceremony to conduct.
How do I change my name in Ontario after the ceremony?
You just assume your spouse's last name. Just start using it! In short spouses may take the other spouses last name. You just inform your employer, credit card companies, banks, and other institutions that you are married. Give them a photocopy of the record of marriage you will receive from your Officiant at the ceremony. Some places require the original and not a copy of the record of marriage i.e. drivers license, OHIP.
